Police probe racist graffiti in Clitheroe
RACIST graffiti and far-right insignia was scrawled on cars belonging to Asian families in Clitheroe, police have revealed.
The damage to cars in Henthorn Road and Garnett Road was reported last weekend and officers from Clitheroe Police are investigating the incidents.
A Volkswagen Golf in Garnett Road had the letters BNP etched in to the front windscreen of the car, while similar damage was done to a vehicle in Henthorn Road last Friday night.
The damage has prompted concern amongst councillors and the town's Muslim leaders, who said they would work with police to track down the offenders.
Sgt Rob Evans, of Clitheroe Police, said it was unusual for the town to experience a surge in incidents like this.
He said: "To have two or three cases like this happen in one night is strange for Clitheroe.
"We are doing a lot of work in the area to try and track down the people who did this.
"We are appealing for information from any one who may have seen the damage being carried out."
Alan Yearing, the Liberal Democrat councillor for the Edisford and Low Moor ward of Clitheroe, slammed those who had damaged the cars.
He said: "It is not something that is happening often in Clitheroe and as ward councillor I am surprised.
"It is not acceptable under any circumstance and I am disappointed that this has occurred.
"I will work with police to find out what is going on."
Farouk Hussain, one of the men behind Clitheroe's mosque in Lowergate, believes there is a wider trend in the town for anti-social behaviour.
He said: "There's seems to be an increase of vehicle damage in Clitheroe which I don't think is specific to one race or religion.
"I don't think the mosque has had any impact on the number of incidents like this, I suspect sometimes it's just teenagers carrying out these acts."
Clitheroe Police is operating a reward scheme for youths who come forward with any information relating to the incident.
Any youth who comes forward with information leading to the conviction of offenders could receive up to £260.
Anyone with information should ring Clitheroe Police on 01200 458734 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Well, this is a bit of a joke, isn't it? Offering Chav toerags a couple of hundred quid to drop their mates off to the local police?
This is almost as bad as PAYING the little darlings to turn up at school.
This truly shows the level of ineptitude that the Lancashire Constabulary has finally reached;absolutely no respect from the teenage scum they are so indifferent about;absolutely no respect from the PARENTS of the scum they are indifferent about, and a vote of 'NO CONFIDENCE' from the victims of the above...
If it was April 1st,I would be laughing my head off,but unfortunately,it isn't...

I find it strange that the police are going all out to investigate this "race hate" crime. Last summer, rascist graffiti was sprayed all over the dressing rooms of Witton Park astraturf changing rooms.Stuff like "White Scum"was daube all over the walls.
No mention of this in the Telegraph and no police investigation.

i saw the headline and even before i opened to see the details knew that this would be a report on an "attack" on the Asian community
the police and media in Lancashire need reminding that it needs to investigate and report with the same words etc....
sick of seeing the unbiased reporting in the press
why are we so scared of these Asians?

I went to a job last week in Blackburn, and was asked: 'what do you want white man?'
I ignored the comment, then again, 'Hey white man, what you want?'
So, I told him, what the fook was it to do with him?
loving it

was that racist or insolent?
If I'd said that to a particular Asian group I'd have been in big trouble? YES!

Well you have to hand it to the Asian community. At least their children have parental respect and study hard at school. Not like the white youth of today who can't wait to reach the age of 13 so that they can bunk off school, get ratlegged on cider and start producing scum offspring to keep the cycle going. Oh, and all this with not even being able to string a coherent sentence together.

Parental respect?
I think you will find it is more a case of them hiding the truth from their parents about drinking alcohol, doing/selling drugs, driving with no licence and taking white juvenile girls out in their rented cars.

You see the article on the white boy who got jumped by asian lads and their dogs.
The police are saying this is an unusual crime.
No it isn't, it is a race hate crime, but because the victim is white it is not seen in this way. You can bet if it would have been an asian boy attacked by 3 white youths and their dogs it would be all over the national press.

Hate crime is a crime, racist, sexist, homophobic, religous whatever the nature we should strongly condemn it, not take the opportunity to get even with the press or highlight our own fears about othe races asian, white, or whatever. its time we put our fears behind and treat this crime as crime and nothing else.

Well funny how asian image is the only paper that put incidents like this in, sun/mirror/telegraph and other big papers too busy telling the same story of 7/7 over and over again to keep the hatred strong.
Well not surprised with all the attacks in clitheroe.
If it was a church then it would be on BBC news headlines. With Trevor Mcdonald reporting it to make it look like as if they are not racist. Yeah right.
Well nothing unusual about the racist ignorant whites.
And yeah I bet their comments will stay on, but mine will get removed.
