Marchers carry banner for prophet's day
 |
| DEVOTION: Worshippers set off from the Ghosia Mosque, Clayton Street, Nelson, on a march to mark the birth of the prophet Muhammad |
THOUSANDS of Muslims marched through the streets of East Lancashire yesterday to mark the birthday of the prophet Muhammad.
Marches set off from Ghosia Mosque on Clayton Street, Nelson, and from Oak Street in Whalley Range, Blackburn.
Residents marked the occasion by throwing flowers into the street and displaying banners specially made for the day.
The bouquets had flowers of all varieties to mark different religions and cultures found in the area.
Coun Hussain Akhtar, who took part in the march in Blackburn, said: "The message to youngsters should be that respect for Islam is not just for one day, it is forever."
Coun Akhtar also said that the religious groups, Blackburn with Darwen Council and police marshalling the event were "working shoulder to shoulder to bring the borough together."

This is how the Labour Party plays politics.
Allow us Muslims to march through streets, give us permission and then use that to get our votes during general elections.
Am I not surprised this councillor had something to say. Labour muppet!
And what planet is he living on? Being an Asian and Muslim, how can this bring communities together? In fact it makes the non muslim community look at us and think what the heck? This also gives the BNP ammunition and teh far right to recruit and pust their agenda and policies.
I am all up for celebrating an important birthday but really, is marching through the streets the right way.

Islam is not about rituals and celebrations otherwise we are no different to other faiths like Hinduism and Sikhism.
No wonder we muslims are in such problems its cus our so called Muslim leaders and the committee leaders of our mosques are more interested in marching instead of tackling real issues.
Go to the Office of National Statistics and see why we are at bottom when it comes to employment, education, health and are hghest in deprivation and crime.
I can guarantee you, the day you meet God and his Prophet (SAW) you wont be questioned about whether you celbrated his birthday but you will be asked what you did for the Muslims.

Islam is a peaceful religion, not one where people scream the word to make sure its heard, often getting a negative image among our peers.
Religious occassions are not marked with marches, what are marked with marches is protests against the name of Islam being blamed for terrorist/extremist ideas and activites where it should be these single people who need to be shot because of their killing of innocent people, all supposedly in the name of Islam, when Islam is totally against this.

Our palestinian brothers are relying on UN handouts just to keep them alive and these guys are more interested in singing and marching around the streets.
Subhanallah look at the jokes we have become. This is embarrasing.
And what is even more funny is that there is no proof for this m,arching in islam. It's all brailvi mumbo jumbo. If you can find proof, i'd love to see it!

Its total hog wash. The love of the Prophet (S) is not to march down the streets shouting his name.... its the adoption of his Sunnah. I would be pretty safe in saying that 95% of those marching wouldnt be able recite the Quran properly... nor offered their Fajr that day. Or most of them couldnt state the fra-iz of Salaah. Their total knowledge of the Prophet (S) is marching and reciting durood. Ask them to adopt the Sunnah and they dont want to know.
Instead they feel its more important to march down the streets as sign of the love of the Prophet (S). Its nothing more than ignorance. Priorities all wrong.

As for imran hussain, i wont get into a religious debate on here but where is the proof that the Quran was compiled at the time of the Prophet PBUH...it wasnt, it was done afterwards...just like an endless list of other things...so stop spreading your extremist salafi-wahhabist idealogies on here you full of hate individual. We have heard it all before, tawheed, shirk, bidah etc etc...go look up where salafism & wahhabism originated from and you will realise you are a complete fool..now i will stop before i start really offending you & your brethren at Netherfield Road Institute

All the comments above prove why we as a community havent got any respect from other commuities. If we cant get on and throw abuse at each other, how on earth do we expect others to tolerate us? As to the march,I have my own views on that wahabi or ortherwise I am entitled to my views. What I am not entitled to do is belittle others, or least that was my understanding of Islam. Correct me if im wrong but is it not acceptable to pray and express ourselves in the privacy of our homes? Our society is a shambles and we make ourselves look like idiots who cant get on. I agree with Khalid, many of the people on these marches arent even religious they go out for attention and a good time then celebrate in the evening by getting drunk and having sex with whomever they can get...

All verses were compiled in a during the Caliphate of Uthman (RA) with many Companians (RA) who verified the true contents. What Nelsoner says is a big insult to the Holy Companions (RA). The Holy Prophet (SAW) was on this world and led a life of example to mankind. The Holy Prophet (SAW) never celebrated any birthday not his own or others. In order to follow His example we should do the same.
Also I hear that the Holy Prophet (SAW) died on the same date as his birth - someone please confirm. If this is the case, the marchers could be marching for the wrong reason.

Dawood Bhai Saleem Patel, you are an extremely foolish person, basing your life on a complete fantasy which is what all religions are. You can't even prove the veracity of any religion, you just blindly accept your brainwashing by the imams. Well the joke will certainly be on you if you are expecting an afterlife. Make the most of this one and dump the lies of religion.

This is true and one of the reason why muslims shoud not celebrate birhtdays, another is that you are celbrating the fact that you are one year closer to death .... May He forgive us in this world and hereafter.Ameen

(From a Prophetic saying related by Zaid Ibn Thabit.(Allah be pleased with him)) ?The Prophet died and the Qu?ran had not been compiled anywhere. `Umar (Allah be pleased with him) suggested to Abu Bakr (Allah be pleased with him) to compile the Qu?ran in one book. When a large number of Companions were killed in the battle of Yamama, Abu Bakr wondered, ?How could we do something that the Prophet did not do?? `Umar said, ?By Allah, it is good.? `Umar persisted in asking Abu Bakr until Allah expanded his chest for it (Allah made him agree and accept these suggestions) and he sent for Zaid Ibn Thabit and assigned him to compile the Qu?ran.? Zaid said, ?By Allah if they had asked me to move a mountain, it would not have been more difficult than to compile the Qur?an.? He also said, ?How could you do something that the Prophet did not do?? Abu Bakr said, ?It is good, and `Umar kept coming back to me until Allah expanded my chest for the matter.? The saying is narrated in Sahih Al Bukhari.
Read it Brierfielder & understand the context in which my original post was written..not true wobbo style & selecting 1 verse and forgetting the one after.

You have twisted this logic and applied it for something totally different. You're the one whose doing things out of context. Basically your twisted logic gives Carte Blanche to do everything including these baseless rituals. I feel that I'm hitting my head on a brick wall here!

What stupid fools! This is not Islam, you're acting like pagans. May Allah give you hidayat and if thats not possible then you should be finished off. For those of you who keep attacking 'wahabbism'and referring to it as some estranged sect, you need to start reading history and grasping the real facts. H. Patel is speaking in line with Sunnah. The people who oppose H. Patel's view are against the sunnah. Briefielder I feel sorry for you, having to hit your head against the brick wall and also live close to these morons!

There is NOTHING WRONG with celebrating the Birthday of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him), He was the Greatest Gift to Mankind From Allah. The March is showing that Muslims are United and have great love for the Prophet, year by year the march is growing and attracting more and more people, Keep it Up. Those who don't celebrate it just shows what love they have for there prophet.

Lara Khan I had no problems with H Patel's comments, I do have a problem with Wahhabism, its a recent developement not around in the times of the Prophet PBUH yet an offshoot of the Wahhabist group call themselves Salafis ie from "those before" but there were no salafis or Wahhabis in the time of the great Prophet...Abdul Bin Wahhab's history, I suggest you read it & see where it developed from and who funded him. Is suicide bombings of innocent individuals not biddah?? I only ever find wahhabi type groups who preach bringing about an Islamist state around the world through any means necessary...A true lover of the Prophet PBUH does not blow himself up and then your groups chant in support..your so arrogant that your literature states that you dont follow 1 of the 4 Imams blindly like the other muslims..How arrogant to think the majority of the world follows blindly..read the stats..wahhabism accounts for 10 - 20% of the muslim population of the world. I have read your own literature at a recent event in bradford.

A renowned scholar from Saudi - the late Bin Baz has written a book condemning the 9/11 suicide bombing and other types of suicides. No official strand of Islam condones suicide killing. It's only cult type organisations who glorify these types of barbaric operations. In the interests of Muslim Unity, I will no longer add to this thread since it does our cause no good if we are squabbling amongst ourselves.

Nelsoner, I was talking about the B-day bash in your neck of the woods, you've clearly gone on one big rant. And what you coin as being 'wahabbism' is not actually the true wahabbism, you've judged it by the actions of a minority of people in the world. I'll leave you to your b-day bashes and Pir's et al. I have exams to revise for. Ciao

As a PR exercise with the indigenous population this is a disaster. The indigenous population do not care about the birth or death of this obscure prophet. Don't you realise this? You really may as well have been handing out BNP leaflets. Are your leaders/advisers really this stupid?

The organisers of marches like this should ensure that at least some of the banners are in english and possibly hand out leaflets explaining what you are marching for and the religious context etc.
The fact is that this march becomes the public face of Islam to most white people that see it. The muslim community could do with doing more outreach (stalls, meetings, inviting people into mosques) throughout the year. This would be a start in terms of de-mystifying the religion and making it seem less threatening to some people.

The last time I heard of repeated, organised marches of a particular religious group was the Orange marches. Look what happened there.
The march is, to me, one of the least effective ways of portraying a positive image of Muslims to the rest of the community. It tries to assert power, it is loud, it doesn't educate non-Muslims... it even goes so far as excluding them.
I agree with those on here who have suggested alternative methods of celebration.

Behaving like Pagans? Good. Pagans have a much better grasp on reality than any of the monotheistic religions which are just about controling the ignorant in this life by promising a better time once you are dead.
Paganism has been around for tens of thousands of years, not like these Johnny come lately Christians and Muslims.

1. There is no evidence for this kind of marching in islam. Lets not beat around the bush here...
2. Just because you don't want to march does not make you a wahabi. There are better ways to spend time remembering our beloved prophet (pbuh).
3. This kind of silly marching is useless for inter community relations.
4. It tends to be mainly the brailvi pakistni muslims who come up with this kind of time wasting activity.
5. You do realise that there are people dying all over the world that need our help. How does marching around the town centre help them? serious question.

We have heard it all before, tawheed, shirk, bidah etc etc...go look up where salafism & wahhabism originated from and you will realise you are a complete fool..now i will stop before i start really offending you & your brethren at Netherfield Road Institute [/quote] hehe, you might be surprised to know that i'm actualy a sunni and follow the hanafi madhab.
Just becuase i don't want to march around wasting time dosen't make me a wahabbi like you assumed. But anyway,
in reponse to your rather point....

Now where exactly the hell is the consensus of our ummah on marching around and parading on our beloved prophet(pbuh) birthday?
I would really love to see it.
If we follow the consensus of our sahaba we'll again find not even a shred of evidence for this kind of time wasting activity.
Our beloved prophet pbuh once walked around the kaba and looked to the kaba and said: [bold]"how beautiful you are, how beautiful you are but the blood of a muslim if much more precious"[/bold] Right now our muslim brothers are living in poverty and don't know where their next meal is coming from. Is their blood not precious not precious to these marching timewasters who then proceed to have a nice meal at the mosque?
Signs of the times..........
