Cameras roll at Indian restaurant

A FARNWORTH restaurant was taken over by a crew filming a new comedy this week.

The Royal Balti Restaurant in Lower Market Street, which was featured in a scene in Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights, was used by a crew of more than 40 filming a six-part drama called The Cup.

Restaurant owner Nurul I Meah said: "I think they wanted to use us because we look like a traditional Indian restaurant, whereas a lot of restaurants all look the same.

"It was unbelievable. There were about 40 crew and actors here and they stayed for more than four hours.

They did the same scene time and time again.

"The scene they were filming involved two people having an argument about who was going to be the coach of a children's football team. It was an angry scene and they were getting more angry as they ordered their curry."

The crew then moved on to film at other undisclosed locations in and around Bolton.

The Cup, which is adapted from Canadian series The Tournament, is written by Jack Docherty and Moray Hunter, who are best known for their work on Scottish sketch show Absolutely.

It stars Steve Edge, who played Alan in Phoenix Nights, and Jennifer Hennessy from Drop Dead Gorgeous, and focuses on the selfish behaviour of parents of an under-11 football team, who try to live their dreams through their children.

The series is being made by Hartswood Films and is being produced by Men Behaving Badly producer Sue Vertue and directed by Matt Lipsey, who previously worked on Little Britain. The Cup is due to be screened on BBC2 in August or September.

There isn't a decent curry place in the area, it's all gloop and glorified gravy.
Nearest best place for Asian food is in Altrincham....along with some of the Curry Mile.

Shimul's has just re opened and it's fantastic. The food is amazing and the owners are lovely. The food is quite rich so you don't need much but I would recommend it.

along with some of the Curry Mile

Twenty years ago the Curry Mile couldn't be beaten. Ten years ago it was still okay but since then most of the places have gone downhill very fast.

Andrew,
Why do you not review the takeaways in Little Lever for your guide to Nob End. You still on Vodka at lunchtime so it cant be smelt by Julie and the clients on your £20 a ad guide ?

The first and last time that i went for a curry at Shimuls was in 1989, i remember it well, a beef curry. It was like eating a can of Pedigree Chum, only a can of chum wouldnt have been as gristly and tasteless - never been back since and never will!

So a bad experience 20 years ago put you off forever? Have you never heard of improvements? It's actually no skin off my nose if you go or not. It's your loss if you don't that's all.

Honestly Nomad you will not be disappointed. It is run by Tan and Amanda and Tans dad is the chef. Like I said before though, it is very rich food so don't do the norm with loads of poppadoms, plus a starter and a main meal. Just have either poppadoms or a starter. There is also a rice that they do that I haven't seen before but can't remember the name. Think it begins with M? Anyway, give it a go and if you don't agree with me then come on here and slate me. They use high quality products so that's why it's better than mass produced rubbish some curry houses use.

Try Kebabeesh on Derby St or even Dawoods on St Helens Rd...good curries

Hey I wonder if Roy Meanley likes a curry? That would be good. The most racist person in Bolton going against his judgement and going for an Indian.
