Mosque plan set for approval
Councillors in Preston are set to give the green light to plans for a controversial new mosque in Fulwood.
Proposals to demolish the existing Masjid-e-Salaam mosque in Watling Street Road and replace it with a purpose-built building have been recommended for approval at Monday's (March 31) planning committee meeting.
A proposal for a larger building was thrown out last year amid fears over increased traffic.
But the new scaled-down plans look to meet all the requirements in terms of traffic and the effect the building has on the Fulwood Conservation Area.
The plans have also been welcomed by the Fulwood Conservation Group which had previously objected to the development on the grounds that the design was not in keeping with the area.

Why is the 1st paragraph saying the scheme is controversial? If you read the rest of the article, you'll find the mosque application satisfies requirements of different bodies. Is it the editor's way of spicing up the story to get right whingers to blitz the site with Islamophobia/Racist/
Xenophopic comments?

The problem is it could end up like Blackburn. Whether you like it or the not the truth is most mosques are set up to make their chairman rich men so they can drive around in their Mercedes. I pray at home and don’t bother going to the corrupt mosques anymore. The places are falling to bits, hygiene standards are below par, yet the people running things seem to live very nicely… I wonder why? Also in Blackburn people build the mosques only to compete with one another to raise as much funds as possible. The problem is people are too blind to see this and continue to donate. How many mosques do really need? Not that many. At pray time any mosque I have been to in Blackburn seems to be half empty. If the mosque is not in line with other designs around the area it will decrease peoples house prices. Not that anyone in the Asian community actually cares about anyone already living their and the impact on their lives… [bold]Just my opinion.[/bold]

My views are from the facts i have noticed. Mosques are now run like football clubs the way they are managed, their board are the players, and thier is firce competition to mark there teritory especially when it comes to Eid day. All in it for self interest and greed. I have never seen a friendly Imam speak to me in English so i can understand properly the meaning of things they rather sush me away. A good understanding of what happens to donations for the needy can be seen in this community when the Kasmiri earthquake occured and the Kashmiri assosiation kept the money for months after not having put it to good use and stalling on whether to release the funds. It's the same mentality. I'm not afraid to state the truth and do not turn a blind eye to things. The problem is the Asian community will turn a blind eye to anything the mosque or it's chairmen do. It is not me who is the bad guy here it's the people within the mosques bleeding them dry.

abbas, firstly i would like to say that the example you gave above is from a pakistani mosque, so i dont blame you for judging their morals, secondly you say that the main reason they build mosques nowadays is so that the chairman can get rich, but let me tell you something about this mosque, a large percentage of people that attend this mosque are millionaires so i dont think they are doing this for personal gain. and thirdly pakistani and indian mosques are run very differently.

I think your view of generally wealthy people being millionaires is extremely naive. Secondly if you say what is true then there is even more the reason to build the mosque because of high percentage of untapped donors. It does not matter if the mosque is an Indian mosque or not I have seen both types engaging in the same morals and behaviour don’t try and justify it as being one sided because its not. Trying to segregate the problem will not make it any better. Just like Eid day. Appointing businessmen or other beneficiaries to chairman posts it a major problem as for the mosques. Not putting any money into the local area another. Teaching more about the mosques and helping the public perception of mosques is not something they are interested in, only keeping money for themselves or sending it abroad when it disappears and you see nothing of the project they are supposed to have invested in. Bottom line is most of them are run by two faced money hungry liars. And until I can see a mosque that is run for its people I won’t change my mind.

RE; Abbas
I greet you with peace,I read your views with interest, and will have to agree with you on a few points, but you need to refer back to Ahadith for your praying at home.
Before i say anymore I am not a Committee member of any Masjid, but to suggest that Chairmans get rich because of the building of Masjids is outrageous, [by the way any Tom{Taheer} Dick {Dawood} or Harry {Haroon} drives a mercedes these days, I don't].I have moved into Blackburn exactly one year today, and I have visited many Masjids, the hygiene standards of the Masjids are very acceptable and in some cases exemplary. Yes, we need to review our building of Masjids, because whilst we are spending loads of dosh on stuctures{Spain,Turk
ey etc} very little or none is spent on infrastracture.
May our Creator Guide us to a better understanding of our Deen.

There you go Ily from Preston seems like you have got a group of fans. These only go to re enforce my beliefs that majority of mosques are corrupt and now it seems they are from the ground up. Talk about proud to be Muslim, can't celebrate Eid on one day, can’t get the Imams to talk in English so the youngsters can understand and problems with charity money going into their own bank accounts mmm. I wonder how my local imam would react if I asked him how there were getting along with the Well project they were supposed to be building last Eid and if I could get some pictures from all the poor kids whose life it has benefited. Not a chance in hell in guess. The Imam probably benefited from a nice attic extension or a conservatory. And yet no one is man enough to open their eyes to all this and say enough is enough that why our home countries are still clogged with corruption and 20 years behind western countries. A little like the Asian communities.
